“If I have done anything, even a little, to help small children enjoy honest,

simple pleasures, I have done a bit of good.”

Welcome to a Year of Learning

Jan 17, 2023

Welcome, friend.

Welcome to A Year of Learning.

This is a place for learning.

A place of gather and connect, wonder and appreciate, read and adventure.

And it is a place for you. For all mamas. All learners.

I am so thankful you found your way here and you will read these words....

because the truth is that no one loves and cares for your children's needs as much as you do. Even in your hardest moment, on your worst day, you still love them most. You care for their individualized education strongest because you know them best: every memory, every heartache, every joy, everything that makes them excited or fearful, energized or depleted.

Even if you make many mistakes along the way, you will succeed many more times over the course of a lifetime of learning because you know their endless value and overwhelming worth.

The thing is home education is not a race. It's not about textbooks. It's not about anything but loving to learn. Everything else flows from that.

Begin gentle. Begin slow. Begin together.

First, you need to begin to value learning together, and that takes a lot of time at first, even several years in. And you need to know that you will need to extend so much grace to yourself and your learners. Especially when a year or the journey is new and the expectations are too high. Because you are together enough to mess up often, and it can feel heavy when the newness wears off, so let those feelings go and seek the truth that you are enough, they are enough, and even more you were purposefully designed to be enough together. And your togetherness will bring learning in ways you never knew it could. it could.

Embrace the grace. Embrace the joy. Embrace the mess. Embrace education together.

Embrace A Year of Learning.

And above all any small handwork will guide in future handwriting so sometimes just allow the child time and space to create and cut and glue and stick and get sticky... is enough.

A gentle education does not mean you cannot have plan for your year, or a structure for your day, or even use a curriculum as a guide. You can use these tools in your days learning together as long as it’s balanced with the dedication to providing a slow and steady education in the early years, one that invites more than it inspects, one that is consistent and careful, connecting over comparing. One that allows more and interrupts far less.
